The chairman of NOC, Farhat Bengdara, welcomed on Monday morning the EU ambassador, Nicola Orlando, along with the EU mission’s head of cooperation and the manager of its energy and climate action programme.
The meeting focussed in particular on environmental protection, methane emission reduction and gas flaring. It also covered NOC plans to promote the involvement of the private sector in the development of sustainable energy production..
Describing the meeting as “productive”, Orlando confirmed that it had explored opportunities for cooperation in sustainable oil and gas growth, renewable energy, environmental protection and energy connectivity, also adding that one of the objectives was a strong role for the private sector.
“We also agreed to explore collaboration on reducing methane emissions, supporting Libya’s commitment to zero flaring.”, he added, saying that he looked forward to deepening a “sustainable energy partnership” between the EU and the NOC.
